The Comox Valley Women’s Resource Centre is sponsoring an event next week to provide aspiring women entrepreneurs with the information they need to decide if self-employment is right for them.Women will have the opportunity to attend a forum March 31 from 1 to 4 p.m. where they can meet and have a discussion with accomplished women entrepreneurs from the Comox Valley. To feature a broad range of experiences, five women have been invited to share their stories and offer advice to other women who are considering self-employment.“We’re hosting this event to offer women the tools they need to turn their self-employment dreams into reality,” said Romana Frey, executive director of the Comox Valley Women’s Resource Centre. Panel members will spend a few minutes each telling their own stories about how they became self-employed and learned to succeed despite the challenges they may have faced.Participants will then have the opportunity to pose questions to the panel to explore topics such as balancing family and self-employment, accessing startup capital, responding to market needs and hiring employees.“I have met a lot of women who would like to consider self-employment," said Frey. “They just don’t know the process of how to get started. Forums like this are a wonderful opportunity for women to learn from each other and begin to decide what their next steps might be.”Women from any community on the North Island are welcome, and young women are particularly encouraged to attend. For more information, call the Comox Valley Women’s Resource Centre at 250-338-1133. The event is free of charge, but seating is limited, and pre-registration is required.— Comox Valley Women's Resource Centre
