A young bear found deceased at the side of the road in the Comox Valley has conservation officers looking for answers around its death.

On Tuesday (June 15), reports of the bear by Kitty Coleman Park which appeared to be shot were reported by passersby. A representative for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy in which the BC Conservation Service falls under said the agency is aware of the incident but has no information on the circumstances or the cause of the bear’s death.

Those who spotted the bear were unsure if it was hit by a vehicle and someone may have shot the bear afterward or if it was shot and came to rest by the side of the road.

Conservation noted if the public has any information pertaining to this matter, to report it to the RAPP (Report All Poachers and Polluters) hotline at 1-877-952-7277.
