Courtenay council approved a 1.95-per-cent increase in property taxes at a budget meeting Wednesday.
The result is a $6.60 increase for an average property worth $275,000.
Council deferred discussion on a commercial tax multiplier to its April 22 meeting.
The proposed 2014 financial plan provides $35 million in expenditures.
Final decision on the budget is next month. Council encourages feedback from the public.
As of Monday, the City is offering a new online tool called Citizen Budget that allows the public to review operating budgets.
