Courtenay Safeway not among grocery stores being sold by Sobeys

Sobeys must sell 23 Western Canada stores, but the Courtenay Safeway is not among them.

Canadian grocery company Sobeys Inc. is selling 23 Western Canada stores, but the Courtenay Safeway is not among them.

The Competition Bureau ordered Nova Scotia-based Sobeys to sell that many stores in Western Canada before it will OK the purchase of Safeway Canada.

Stores for sale include the Safeway, Sobeys, IGA and Price Chopper brands.

Two Safeway stores in Victoria and one in Sidney are the only Vancouver Island stores Sobeys will unload.
