Jesse Ketler will serve a third term as chair of the Comox Valley Regional District board of directors.

The Cumberland director was acclaimed to a third term as chair at Tuesday’s inaugural meeting.

Area B director Arzeena Hamir was also elected to a third term as vice-chair of the board. She too was acclaimed to the position.

“Thanks for your vote of confidence again,” Ketler said. “Working with such level-headed and compassionate board members and staff has made my job of chairing the region through multiple states of emergency much easier.

“We’re changing the way we do things from legislative changes to community relationships, and it is difficult, but it’s positive because we need that flexibility to deal with the challenges ahead of us. I would like to say that it will get easier from here, but even if that’s not the case, I’m confident that with the people of our community and the values that we share, we’ll be able to take care of each other and meet challenges in the years to come.”

As she does every year, Ketler has met with each director to reflect on the past term. The board would like to inform the public about key issues through forums in partnership with community groups. Topics with the most support from directors include CVRD/First Nations relationships and reconciliation, along with water and food security forums.
