MEMORIES WILL BE rekindled during the 26th annual Miners Memorial event next week.

The Cumberland Museum and Archives is presenting its 26th annual Miners Memorial event June 23-25, and community members far and wide are invited to come and be a part of the annual Cumberland Museum tradition.

This event commemorates fallen workers and the stories, struggles and triumphs of workers — locally and around the world, yesterday and today.

It kicks off Thurs., June 23 at 8 p.m. when the Cumberland Museum presents Tales of Rebellion and Music, a double documentary film feature.

Ginger Goodwin's Way, a new student documentary by Neil Vokey, will be shown, and there will be an exclusive screening of Bloodied and Unbowed — History of the Vancouver Punk Rock Scene, by filmmaker Susan Tabata.

Tickets are only $10, and the films are being shown at the Masonic Hall.

The screening will be followed by an exciting live show with the East Vamps, an all-girl punk band, at the Cumberland Hotel. Admission is $10.

Friday, June 24 features the annual Songs of the Workers event at the Cumberland OAP Hall.

This classic pub-style evening offers traditional labour, folk and working class tunes from local and visiting performers.

Songs of the Workers takes place from 8-11 p.m. All are welcome to attend by donation.

Saturday, June 25 features an 11 a.m. guided tour of the Cumberland Museum and a very special 1 p.m. Celebration of Remembrance at the Cumberland Cemetery.

Everyone is welcome to come and take part of this annual commemoration that includes speakers, music, the laying of flowers and more at the Cumberland Cemetery.

At 3:30 p.m., participants can take part in a guided walking heritage tour of Cumberland, which leaves from the museum.

The weekend’s celebrations finish off with the Miner’s Memorial Day dinner, hosted by the Cumberland Museum at the Cumberland Recreation Hall.

Tickets are $20 or $10 for children younger than 12, while children younger than five get in for free.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the evening features guest speakers including author Susan Mayse, live music and delicious food from the board and volunteers of the "People's Museum of Cumberland."
