Cumberland residents will use an automated voting machine to cast their votes during the 2014 municipal elections this November.
Cumberland council directed Village staff to draft an election bylaw that includes the use of automated voting machines.
According to deputy corporate officer Rachel Parker, the automated machine cost is estimated at $3,500, but it would mean some savings via a reduction in labour. The automated voting system also ensures accuracy and will allow unofficial results to be declared as early as 15 minutes after voting closes at 8 p.m.

Cumberland council will discuss whether the Village can afford to spend money on a youth co-ordinator during the 2014 budget process.
Cumberland Community Schools Society asked council earlier this month for funding to help pay for a youth co-ordinator who would develop regular programming for youth in Cumberland.
The CCSS asked council for $25,200 per year for a two-year period to launch the new programming. The CCSS would generate $10,200 per year, for a total budget of $35,400 per year.
Council voted to refer the matter to the 2014 budget process for discussion.
