Emergency funds available for North Island College students

North Island College students will be able to take advantage of increased emergency funding starting Friday, April 3, thanks to a $206,500 boost from the provincial government.

North Island College students will be able to take advantage of increased emergency funding starting Friday, April 3, thanks to a $206,500 boost from the provincial government.

The funding investments by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training supplement existing emergency funds, which support students experiencing an unexpected financial emergency that may affect their ability to finish their studies.

“We know this is an extremely stressful time for our students, and that’s why we are so thankful for this investment from the provincial government,” said Kathleen Kuhnert, NIC associate vice-president, student services and registrar.

The emergency funding is available to help with a broad range of financial needs including costs, living expenses and funding towards supports for remote learning.

Students who need assistance can contact NIC’s financial aid advisors, who can help with the application process for emergency funding and other forms of financial aid. Indigenous students can also reach out to NIC’s Aboriginal educational advisors.

“All our student services are available to any student who has a question or needs assistance,” said Kuhnert. “Advising appointments can be booked online through the Book NIC Advising Appointments link on our homepage. Students can also call 1-800-715-0914 to speak with a financial aid advisor.”
