At approximately 7:55 a.m. on Nov. 9 the Comox Valley RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Headquarters Road and Tsolum River Road/Smith Road in Courtenay.
Both drivers were taken to hospital via ambulance, where one of the drivers has succumbed to their injuries.
Headquarters Road remains closed at this time, while this investigation continues. Northbound traffic on Headquarters road is being detoured at Bridges Road.
The Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic Section, North Vancouver Island Traffic Services, the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, the British Columbia Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Unit and BC Coroners service are assisting with this investigation.
No Further information will be released until the next of kin notification is completed.
