Fire causes evacuation of 48-unit apartment in Courtenay

A fire in the basement suite of a unit on 10th Street in Courtenay kept firefighters busy Wednesday afternoon

A FIREFIGHTER EXAMINES the inside of a basement suite on 10th Street in Courtenay Wednesday afternoon. The 48-unit building was evacuated after the fire began around 4:15 p.m. Fire chief Don Bardonnex said it was too early to know the extent of damage caused.
