From Oct. 24 until Nov. 1, fireworks will be on sale in the CVRD electoral areas A, B and C.

The sale of fireworks must be from a commercially zoned retailer operating under fire regulations within the region. Fireworks are only allowed to be set off on property you own or with the owner’s permission.

Permits are required prior to exploding or setting off fireworks. Permits are available online or at the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) office at 600 Comox Rd. for $10.

Applicants must be 18 and older. Once a permit is approved, they will be authorized to set off fireworks within the CVRD Electoral Areas on property owned by the permit holder. If an applicant wishes to set off fireworks on private property, written consent from the property owner must be provided. If you live within the Town of Comox, City of Courtenay or Village of Cumberland, contact your municipality for fireworks regulations and permit requirements.

“This Halloween make sure you get your fireworks permit first,” said Amanda Yasinski, manager of bylaw compliance. “Failure to have a permit is a $500 fine. As well, please respect your neighbours and let them know beforehand if you are planning on setting off fireworks to help reduce the possibility of frightened children and animals.”
