Two students from the Comox Valley took home top awards

Two students from the Comox Valley took home top awards in this year’s pan-provincial French public speaking competition, Concours d’art oratoire, in Vancouver.

Autum Lewis, a Grade 7 student at Puntledge Park Elementary, finished first overall in the Grade 7 Late Immersion division, for her specch, titled “Les orang-outans”.

Mark R. Isfeld Secondary student Max Sander Segriff won a silver medal in the Grade 8 Immersion division, for his presentation: “Les frères et soeurs.”

An estimated 10,000 students from across the province competed, with 285 making it to the provincial finals.

“It’s an incredible feat to make it to the provincial finals – taking home a medal is a real achievement,” said Concours d’art oratoire chief judge, Dr. Renée Hamilton-Clark.

Other 2014 Provincial finalists from the Comox Valley included Spencer Nasralla and Matthias Smith, both of Robb Road Elementary.
