Despite the hot, dry summer weather in recent weeks, Comox fire chief Gord Schreiner told council Wednesday the Goose Spit fire pit program has been a success.
"Goose Spit has never been better for us in the last couple of summers. The regional district has done a wonderful job managing the fire pit program down there. I wouldn't be disappointed to see the program be extended longer," he said.
Coun. Russ Arnott asked if the program would be onerous on the department if expanded into October.
"No, it wouldn't — we have nothing to do with it — the regional district manages it. We will only respond for emergency situations," he noted.
