A temporary transmitting station is set up in Filberg Park in Comox as park of International Field Day for ham radio operators Saturday.
Field Day demonstrates ham radio’s science, skill and its service to local communities and beyond.
It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933 and remains the most popular event in ham radio.
While some groups treat it as a contest, others use the opportunity to practice their emergency response capabilities, demonstrating the capabilities of the Amateur Radio Service to organizations that amateur radio might serve in an emergency, and to the general public.
The Comox Valley Amateur Radio Club will be conducting field day for 24 hours until 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 23.
