Highway 19A in both directions has now been re-opened following an early morning crash Saturday morning involving a vehicle.

According to DriveBC, the highway was closed eight kilometers north of the Buckley Bay ferry terminal. There was no detour, and drivers were encouraged to use Highway 19 or alternative routes.

There is no confirmation how many people were involved in the incident, but unconfirmed reports indicate two people were taken to hospital.

The incident involved a single-vehicle silver car which was wedged in the pedestrian walkway over Hart Creek in Union Bay.

Early reports indicate alcohol and speed might have been contributing factors in the crash.

Additionally, there is a washout 10 km north of Cook Creek Road on Highway 19A. The road is reduced to single-lane alternating traffic. Drivers are advised to avoid the area if they can.
