With his first shot of the day, Ken Muir became the first hole-in-one prize winner in the 21-year history of the annual RBC St. Joseph's Hospital Charity Golf Tournament.

Muir, who is a longtime golfer but has only played a couple times in the last 10 months, hit a hole in one on the 14th hole at Crown Isle Golf Course, which was shortened to 157 yards for the tournament, June 1. The hole was sponsored by Central Builders Supply Ltd., and with this shot, Muir won a $10,000 home renovation package from the store.

"I've never had a hole in one before and probably never will again," he said. "To have the one and only hole in one in this tournament couldn't have been for a better cause."

The money raised during the tournament, which is sponsored by RBC Royal Bank, Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community, Quality Foods and Eagle FM, is going toward rehabilitation services at St. Joseph's General Hospital, including equipment such as motorized parallel bars and specialty wheelchairs.

While this year's final total has not been tallied, the tournament annually raises about $30,000 for the hospital.

The tournament has raised $365,000 to upgrade equipment in almost every department at St. Joseph’s in the past 20 years.
