L’Arche Comox Valley – a registered charity dedicated to providing living support and community for adults with developmental disabilities – is announcing the kick-off of its fundraising campaign with an event on Oct. 4 at the Native Sons Hall.
The event marks the beginning of an ambitious effort to raise $3.5 million to create independence and community for people with developmental disabilities. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the construction of the first phase of The Anchorage –seven suites of affordable and safe housing with a common amenity space. Construction will include the undergrounds and utilities for a second phase of housing with an additional eight suites on the same property.
The kick-off event will feature award-winning Tamara Taggart – a community leader, activist, veteran broadcaster, cancer survivor and mother. With a broadcasting career spanning 28 years in television, radio, and digital media, Taggart has also focused two decades of volunteer efforts on health care and the well-being of children and people with disabilities.
She is a community leader who advocates for others and raises much-needed funds for many important causes, contributing thousands of hours and serving as a director of several non-profit organizations. Taggart currently hosts the podcast Telus Talks with Tamara Taggart and is the volunteer president of Down Syndrome BC.
The event is set from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.; tickets are available at L'Arche Comox Valley, Blue Heron Books and Laughing Oyster Book Shop.
