Comox Valley RCMP continue to investigate the death of Ciaran Martin, 16, who died Sunday after being struck by a vehicle while longboarding in Black Creek.

The G.P. Vanier student and a friend on a bicycle were travelling northbound on Macaulay Road on Jan. 2, say the RCMP.

"Neither of the two had a light on and it was reported to be raining at the time," Comox Valley RCMP report. "The vehicle that struck the man on the longboard was also traveling northbound on Macaulay Road."

After the teen was struck, emergency services personnel from the Oyster River Fire Department cared for him at the scene. He was taken to St. Joseph's General Hospital in Comox, then airlifted to Victoria General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
