Jacquelyn Janzen, second from left, completed her seventh of 12 marathons Saturday during her Embrace the Race challenge, which she started July 31 in Port Hardy and completes next Saturday in Victoria. “I’m getting used to it (marathoning), which is crazy to be able to say,” said Jacquelyn, 25, from Black Creek. “It’s been a challenge. I used to hate it (running) but you learn to love it. It’s not always easy, but at the end I’m always feeling good. There’s some joy to be found in every day. I think that’s something I’ve learned about people who struggle with diseases like MS and lupus. There’s always some good to be found in each day, and some nugget that you can hold onto that gets you through the next day.”
As of Saturday, the challenge had generated about one-tenth of the $50,000 target, which Jacquelyn hopes to raise for both causes. To donate, visit www.embracetherace2014.com.
