Net tax increase of 1.8 per cent for Cumberland households

The net increase in 2014 property taxes for the average family household in Cumberland is 1.8 per cent.

Cumberland council adopted the 2014 property tax rate and financial plan bylaws last week.

The municipal portion of property taxes for the average family household rose 0.7 per cent this year — after the revised assessment roll came in late-March the municipal portion rose 0.1 per cent from the 0.6 per cent previously expected.

Including amounts collected for other taxing authorities — like the school district, the Comox Valley Regional District and the Vancouver Island Regional Library — and utility fees, (water and sewer), the overall rise in property taxes for the average family household is 1.8 per cent. Property taxes are due by July 2.
