BC NDP leader Adrian Dix and MLAs from around the province are planning a busy schedule in Comox Valley next week.
There's a two-day caucus meeting, community outreach, and a special Wednesday evening fundraiser at the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park.
“I am very excited that Comox Valley is hosting this caucus meeting,” said Comox Valley NDP candidate Kassandra Dycke. “This is a great opportunity for Adrian Dix and other MLAs to hear directly from people in our community about our concerns, our goals and our ideas.”
The NDP caucus meeting will take place Wednesday and Thursday in Courtenay, and while they are here MLAs will meet with a variety of community representatives throughout the Comox Valley – including people from local business, cultural, environmental and social organizations.
Dycke said the Wednesday’s “Seaside Evening” fundraiser is shaping up to be a very special event. It starts at 7 p.m. at the Filberg Lodge and Park at 61 Filberg Road in Comox.
“The evening will showcase some of the best that Comox Valley has to offer,” she said. “We will feature local shellfish, cheese and other produce, live music by local artists, a fine selection of B.C. wines, and decadent deserts made with fair-trade chocolate.”
Dix will be the guest speaker at the event, and Dycke said it is also a great opportunity for people to meet NDP critics from around B.C.
“It’s going to be a fun, social evening with delicious gourmet appies — with a little networking on the side,” she said.
The event includes cheese from Natural Patures and food by Tria Fine Catering, the Gourmet Girls, and local shellfish from Pentlatch Seafoods. The Indigo Jazz Trio, Alan Jossul and other local artists will provide music. There will a silent auction, and safe rides home offered by Ambassador Shuttle.
Tickets cost $100, of which a large portion qualifies for an income-tax deduction. Tickets are selling briskly, and are available at Laughing Oyster Books in Courtenay and Blue Heron Books in Comox or by calling 250-334-3434.
