Federal NDP Party leader hopeful Charlie Angus will be in Courtenay Wednesday

NDP MP Charlie Angus will be in Courtenay Wednesday for the federal NDP party’s leadership campaign events.

“I’m here to talk about a different kind of politics,” Angus said. “It’s a politics that speaks for those who have been left off the political and economic map of this country.

“We need to deal with the reality of a new working class - a world defined by being one accident away from poverty, and we need to tackle the big questions of our times, whether it's climate change, inequality, or reconciliation.

Angus has been the MP for the Ontario riding of Timmins—James Bay since winning the 2004 election. He has served as the NDP critic for Indigenous and Northern Affairs.

“The people of British Columbia deserve leadership that understands their daily struggle to make ends meet,” he said. “Affordable housing, good jobs, clean air and water, fair taxation: these are the things that people care about.

“It’s time we start to dream big again and fight to make our dreams a reality.”

The public is invited to a Meet & Greet with Charlie Angus at 7 p.m. at the Filberg Centre in Courtenay.
