A 24-year-old female pedestrian is in serious condition after she was struck Tuesday morning at the intersection of Ryan Road and the Old Island Highway in Courtenay.

Comox Valley RCMP Const. Rob Gardner said the incident happened around 7:15 a.m., and the pedestrian was taken to local hospital by the BC Ambulance Service, while the driver remained on scene.

He added the merge lane onto Ryan Road was closed for several hours while the incident was being investigated, but has now reopened to traffic.

Comox Valley RCMP Traffic Services, along with the RCMP Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service are working on the investigation.

This is the fourth incident since Sunday involving pedestrians or cyclists and vehicles in the Comox Valley.
