POLICE BEAT: What the Comox Valley RCMP have been investigating recently

Sept. 18 A report of a two-vehicle collision was taken by police. The collision occurred on Highway 19A at Marine drive in Royston.

A report of a two-vehicle collision was taken by police. The collision occurred on Highway 19A at Marine drive in Royston. A car was slowing and turning left onto Marine drive and the following vehicle went into the left lane in order to avoid rear ending it. As the car passed the turning car it collided with the first vehicles front left quarter panel. A motor vehicle act ticket was issued to the driver of the second vehicle. ( 2012 - 11756 )

While doing traffic enforcement on Lake Trail road near the Lake Trail school, police stopped a car for speeding in the school zone. The driver was found to have been consuming alcohol and through subsequent investigation the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate roadside suspension, a speeding ticket, had his vehicle towed and had 25 full beer and one half-empty can destroyed. Police received a call of two stolen electric scooters from the parking lot on the 1000 block of Braidwood road in Courtenay. Through investigation the two bikes were located and returned to their owners. ( 2012 - 11767 )

A break, enter and theft was reported to the police by the owner of a residence on the 2500 block of Webdon road in Courtenay. It is believed that the culprit entered through an unlocked door. This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11791 )

The manager of the liquor store at 1095 Cliffe avenue in Courtenay called police to report a theft of a large bottle of rum. The manager stated that the man came into the store and shoved the bottle down his pants and ran out of the store. This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11796 )

Sept. 19

The City of Courtenay report that culprits spraypainted graffiti on the side of the Sid Williams theatre. ( 2012 - 11821 )

Police received a report of a vehicle having its passengers side window smashed while parked on the 9000 block of Clarkson avenue, in the Black Creek area. ( 2012 - 11823 )

Police received a report of a theft from a vehicle. The owner stated that a tenant of the building he lives in on the 1000 block of 17th street was seen to be carrying items that had been in his vehicle. Police attended and arrested the man and released him later with a court date in the future. ( 2012 - 11838 )

Sept. 20

A pedestrian walking on the foot path behind the Best Western Hotel located an E-bike. Through investigation it was found that the E-Bike had been taken from where it had originally parked the day before. The owner was notified and the bike was returned. ( 2012 - 11841 )

In the past week there have been several cougar sightings in the Courtenay-Comox area. Police advise the public to be vigilant and observant, in anticipating an encounter with a wild animal while walking or running in the forested and bushy areas around Comox and Courtenay.

A report was received from a citizen on Denman Island of mischief to the police car that is parked at the ferry dock. Attendance was made and the car was found to have had its rear window smashed out. This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11847 )

Police responded to a young boy who was struck by a vehicle. The boy was riding his bike in the crosswalk at the intersection of Willemar avenue and Lake Trail Road in Courtenay , when he was struck. The driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act. ( 2012 - 11862 )

The Comox Valley RCMP were requested to assist in locating a male on an outstanding warrant that originated in the Lower mainland. The man was located and arrested. Upon arrest the man was found to have a small amount of drugs, believed to be heroin, in his wallet. ( 2012 - 11869 )

Sept. 21

A report of a stolen vehicle was taken by the Comox Valley RCMP. The car, a Red 1984 Pontiac Firebird with BC licence number 902 WVE, was parked on the 200 block of Back road in Courtenay when stolen. ( 2012 - 11892 )

Police responded to a report of a theft of crystals from a business on Fifth Street in Courtenay. The store owner reported that three people had entered the store and had stolen valuable crystals. The three suspects were located a short distance away and two crystals were recovered. All three will be appearing in court on a later date.

A report of a hit and run collision took place at the lights on Anderton road and Noel avenue in Comox. The suspect vehicle ran into the back of the vehicle that was in front at the lights, and then sped off without checking for injuries or exchanging information. This investigation is continuing. A theft was reported from the Canadian Tire store in Courtenay. The suspect took the merchandise from the box and placed it inside his backpack and left the store without paying. Video evidence was seized and the suspect was known to police. This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 11914 )

A report of an intoxicated man was called in by the bouncers of the Avalanche bar at 275 8th street in Courtenay. The man was asked to leave due to his intoxicated state and his attitude but refused. The man was escorted out but had to be restrained until police arrived and police took the man into custody. ( 2012 - 11933 )

Police received a call of a stolen motorcycle from a residence on McLeod road in Union Bay. The motorcycle is a Black 2010 Buell with BC plate S16955. ( 2012 - 11940 )

Sept. 22

The Comox Valley RCMP responded to a report of a robbery, of a taxi driver, with a knife. The suspect man told the taxi driver to give him his money and reached into his pocket. The driver fled from the car and the suspect drove off in the cab. The male turned himself into the police later that day and was held for court. (2012 - 11943)

Police responded to a report of residences on Church street in Comox being spray painted. The culprits also painted several markings on the  French school, located on the 500 block of Linshart road in Comox. ( 2012 - 11944 )

Police received a report of property damage on the 1200 block of Webdon road in Courtenay. The owner of the house reports hearing noise during the night and when he checked during daylight hours he found two of his lights that hung from a pole, had been torn off and thrown against the side of his house. Police responded to a call of a domestic assault at a residence on the 2800 block of Muir road in Courtenay. Upon attendance police located the female who had had her hair pulled out, had been thrown into a wall and had her cell phone burned. Her boyfriend was taken into custody and held for court. Between the nights of September 23rd, 2012 and September 24th, 2012 police located and stopped 4 cars in the downtown area of Courtenay. All four drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol. All four drivers were given varying degrees of an Immediate Roadside Prohibition. ( 2012 - 11991 )

Sept. 23

A report of a stolen vehicle was received from the owner. The owner stated that they had parked the vehicle at the Buckley Bay ferry terminal on Sept. 21 and upon their return on the 23rd,

found it missing. The vehicle is a White Nissan Pathfinder with BC licence 608GPE. ( 2012 - 12009 )

A report of a theft of military clothing was reported to police by a military employee. The man reports parking his car on 4th street in Courtenay and forgot to lock it. Upon his return to the car he found that someone had stolen his military camouflage jacket. ( 2012 - 12036 )

Sept. 24

A break, enter and theft to a residence on the 1100 block of Webdon road in Courtenay was reported to police. The thieves stole several items which included electronics and jewelry. This investigation is continuing. ( 2012 - 12041 )

The owner of the Whistle Stop Pub on Mansfield drive in Courtenay called police to report that someone stole an eight-by-three-foot canvas sign from in front of the business. ( 2012 - 12052 )

A complaint of a theft from vehicle was received. The owner stated that she went to the hospital and forgot to lock her car and while she was inside someone stole her wallet. ( 2012 - 12055 )
