Comox Fire Rescue received calls for smoke over Comox Tuesday afternoon but have confirmed no fires of note in the town.

Fire Chief Gord Schreiner confirmed the station has received multiple calls and expects more throughout the afternoon for significant smoke throughout the town, the Comox peninsula and towards Little River.

He explained the smoke is likely due to fires on the mainland or a fire on Redonda Island - part of the Discovery Islands east of Campbell River.

Schreiner added while the skies over Comox were clear during the morning, the smoke is most likely due to a shift in the wind direction from east to west this afternoon.
