With the current geopolitical climate, looming trade wars and climate instability, now is the time to buy local and support Comox Valley farmers.

Working together towards a more resilient local food system is a great way to make us all less vulnerable. There are many easy ways to support the Comox Valley food economy while staying budget-friendly and ensuring your meals are delicious and nourishing.

To support local farmers, buy groceries from the Comox Valley Farmers' Market, subscribe to LUSH Valley’s Good Food Box, or purchase directly from farms. Locally-grown produce is fresh, delicious, and often more affordable than other options. Watch for the Buy BC logo, which shows that a product is grown, processed or produced in B.C. Buying local food supports our farmers now so they can continue growing food for our community into the future.

For the garden-curious, there are many local resources to help get started. Grow Food Everywhere Comox Valley is a Facebook group full of food-growing discussions, resources and inspiration. LUSH Valley also offers many workshops on topics such as drought-resilient gardening, crop planning, beekeeping, canning and more. Consider joining a community garden or a community kitchen to learn alongside others. If you already have a green thumb, plan to grow a bigger garden this year and share with your neighbours.

There are also many ways to advocate for food resilience in the Comox Valley. Check out Young AgrariansFarmers for Climate Solutions, the National Farmers Union and the Comox Valley Food Policy Council for resources.

LUSH Valley Food Action Society believes a healthy local food system is at the heart of community well-being. A resilient, community-engaged food system supports everyone from food producers, processors and distributors to chefs, restaurants and eaters. Show some local love today to build community for the future.
