Three Comox Valley singers finalists in talent search

Three of 11 finalists in a provincewide singing talent search are from the Comox Valley.

Rebecca Simms, 13, and Alexandria Maillot, 18, both from Courtenay, and Avery Smith, 13, of Comox made the cut last Saturday out of hundreds on applicants.

Finalists in the Variety – The Children’s Charity contest will perform this Friday before a live audience at the Red Robinson Show Theatre in Richmond.

The winner, selected by a panel of celebrity and industry judges, will appear on the Variety Show of Hearts Telethon on Feb. 12 and will have an opportunity to perform in one of the Great Canadian Casino properties.

The 2011 Variety Telethon will be held Feb. 12 and 13, and televised live on Global BC.

Simms is a jazz and blues singer and won her first competition at age 11 in the Valley Idol competition run by Highland Multimedia Music Productions.

She has sung for various charity events including the Relay for Life. She loves competing and always welcomes a challenge. She is passionate about music and hopes that this competition will help her decide where to go next.

Maillot is a pop singer/songwriter who has been performing all over the world for the past 10 years. She has had her music featured on American Airlines In-Flight Entertainment, MTV and Ourstage.com. She has been involved in many charitable organizations and has organized youth vocal workshops and talent showcases to inspire creativity and a positive start to artistic aspirations.

Smith loves to perform live in front of an audience and enjoys the connection she makes with the crowd. Her influences range from Taylor Swift to Adele. She feels her passion is what sets her apart from other artists.
