Tour de rock rider struck on bicycle back home, taken to hospital

After auxiliary RCMP constable James Matsuda got through the 1,000-kilometre Tour de Rock unscathed, he was taken to hospital Tuesday after a vehicle struck the bicycle he was riding in Courtenay.

After auxiliary RCMP constable James Matsuda got through the 1,000-kilometre Tour de Rock unscathed, he was taken to hospital Tuesday after a vehicle struck the bicycle he was riding in Courtenay.The Comox Valley RCMP responded Tuesday at 2:33 p.m. to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Valley View Drive and Lerwick Road. Witnesses indicated Matsuda was hit as he cycled through the intersection on a green light, the RCMP said wednesday in a news release. He was southbound on Lerwick and crossing the intersection at Valleyview Drive when a northbound vehicle on Lerwick turned left onto Valleyview into Matsuda's path, the RCMP added.Matsuda "received several injuries" as a result of the accident and was transported to St. Joseph's General Hospital for treatment. His condition is not known.
