At least four significant public events have been scheduled while Tour de Rock riders are in the Comox Valley this Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday, Sept. 26 — Lunch with the Tour de Rock team, Courtenay.

After a very busy morning of school stops and hard riding, the team arrives at White Spot on Cliffe Avenue for a delicious, hearty lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

It’s a great chance to meet the team in a casual setting and, if you like, make a donation in support of Camp Goodtimes and pediatric cancer research.

Sept. 26 — Community Fundraiser, Cumberland.

The doors at Cumberland Junior Secondary School (2674 Windermere Ave.) will open at 5 p.m. and the riders will arrive at approximately 5:45.

There will be a concession with hot dogs, pop, juice, coffee and candy bags available. The school has organized a fishpond and bike races and there will be other entertainment, so gather your family and support the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock.

Sept. 26 — Gala de Rock Red Serge Dinner, Courtenay.

You’ve never seen gala like this before. Featuring: Golf Ball drop from a helicopter (courtesy of Mike Hamilton Logging), Fun Casino, balloon pop for prizes, putting contest for a TV, an elegant dinner, chocolate fountain, and a chance to meet the Tour de Rock team.

The event starts promptly at 6 p.m. at the Crown Isle Ballroom. Tickets are $75 each, table of 10 for $650. Tickets available at the RCMP detachment on Ryan Road, Beachwood Café on Cliffe Avenue, or delivered via Comox Taxi: 250-339-7955. Tickets are limited. For more information, contact Patti Mertz at 250-218-7158 or pmertz@bc.cancer.ca.

Thursday, Sept. 27 — Community Breakfast With Tour, Courtenay.

Bring the kids before school, or drop them off and then join the team for breakfast in the parking lot of Thrifty Foods at 660 England Ave. in downtown Courtenay between 7 and 10. Enjoy pancakes and sausage with juice and coffee, by donation to Tour de Rock.

Meet local radio celebrities, and encourage our riders before they leave the Valley with another 8 days of riding ahead of them.
