A man was transported to hospital with second to third degree burns resulting from a Thursday morning trailer fire at Maple Pool Campground and RV Site in Courtenay.

The fire broke out around 8:40 a.m. A woman and a dog were also inside the trailer at the time of the blaze, according to an initial report. The woman was unharmed but the dog died.

“The cause is undetermined at this particular time,” Dennis Henderson, assistant chief of the Courtenay Fire Department, said Thursday.

Trailers, he added, are “fairly combustible.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A campfire ban took effect Thursday in the Coastal Fire Centre, which includes Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and the Sunshine Coast.
