Tribal Canoe Journeys, a ceremonial gathering of more than 100 canoe families from Indigenous Nations across B.C. and the Northwest Coast, arrives in Comox Aug. 2 and 3.

More than 100 families from B.C. and other regions such as Alaska and California, will unite for the bi-annual Tribal Canoe Journeys festival.

En route to Campbell River, familioes will travel aboard traditional hand-carved canoes, stopping at various destinations in the Pacific Northwest so more can join the congregation. The Nations will commemorate the journey in Campbell River Aug. 5 at noon with a welcome ceremony, followed by ongoing celebrations and a welcome feast at 6 p.m. Additional festivities will run until Aug. 10.

Tribal Canoe Journeys aims to strengthen relationships between the peoples of the Pacific Northwest while demonstrating to Indigenous youth the importance of maintaining a lifelong connection to their heritage, land and ocean.
