Two Comox Valley-based search organizations are among a large group of those searching for two mushroom pickers who went missing near Pemberton on Oct.22.
On Oct. 23, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria tasked 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron from 19 Wing Comox to the area in the evening and again on Oct. 24, explained Janice Lee, communications officer for Maritime Forces Pacific.
Search and Rescue Technicians searched during the day on Saturday but were no longer needed as the search continued on the ground, she added.
Members of Comox Valley Search and Rescue – along with other Island teams – are also actively assisting Lower Mainland teams.
According to the Sea to Sky Road Conditions Facebook page, two members from the Lil’Wat Nation – Peter Oleski and his son River Leo – were last seen Oct. 22 at Lil’Wat Nation Chevron in Mount Currie.
A post in the group indicates when searchers arrived at a red Dodge truck belonging to the pickers, food and water were still inside, indicating the pair didn’t plan on travelling a far distance.
