Two people on an ATV were injured - but not critically - Saturday evening near Merville when their quad towing logs collided with a northbound truck.

According to RCMP Sgt. Craig Blanchard, a quad was northbound on the side of the road towing a trailer with logs when a Ford F-150 collided with the back of the trailer and ejected the passengers.

“It was dark at night and it was raining. There were no lights on this ATV and trailer … it doesn’t look like the driver of the pickup was at fault,” he told CTV Vancouver Island.

He added he does not believe the ATV was registered.

“There are unconfirmed reports that it was being operated around the area moving logs from one property to another. It’s not a good idea because to drive an ATV across a road; you need to have registration, insurance and lights.”

Blanchard confirmed the incident is still under investigation for a number of motor vehicle/off-road vehicle offences.
