The Comox Valley RCMP are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that happened overnight on the Inland Island Highway.

The Comox Valley RCMP are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that happened overnight on the Inland Island Highway.

Shortly after 2 a.m., the Comox Valley RCMP, BC Ambulance and the Courtenay Fire Department went to the Inland Island Highway near Piercy Road in Courtenay. A blue Ford Aerostar van was found crashed off road on a treed embankment.

Two people had been travelling in the vehicle. One of the occupants, a 30-year-old woman, was able to flag down a passing motorist for help. She was then taken to the hospital for medical treatment and has since been released.

The other occupant, a 42-year-old Campbell River man, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered severe head trauma. He was located deceased about five feet from the van.

Members of the Comox Valley’s Traffic Section are working alongside a traffic analyst, and the

B.C. Coroner’s office to determine a cause for the collision. Victim Services has also been involved in  the Comox Valley and Campbell River.
