UPDATE: Nine running for four Cumberland council seats, Baird new mayor

Leslie Baird has been declared, by acclamation, the new mayor of Cumberland for the next three years.

Leslie Baird has been declared, by acclamation, the new mayor of Cumberland for the next three years.The longtime member of council will replace outgoing mayor Fred Bates following the Nov. 19 municipal election.

Nine candidates, including incumbents Kate Greening and Gwyn Sproule, will seek the other four seats on council. Since Bronco Moncrief is not defending his councillor seat and Baird has moved up to mayor, at least two newcomers will be elected.

Bruce Barnes, Leona Castle, Conner Copeman, Scott Easterbrook, Roger Kishi, Eric Kozak and Todd Riley complete the field.
