It’s been nearly a year in the making, but a Comox Valley farmer will soon reap the rewards of reality television.
Dave Semmelink, who operates Lentelus Farms in the Comox Valley and the nearby farm stand at 1300 Comox Rd., is one of five farmers featured on CTV’s newest reality show, Farming For Love.
The show searches for singles across Canada ready to find their soul mate with one of the farmers featured on the show.
Season 1 of Farming For Love premiered on Sunday (May 28).
According to the network, the show sees the farmers invite a group of urban daters to live and work alongside them, immersing themselves in a series of challenges, group activities and one-on-one dates with the ultimate goal of finding their life partner.
On Sunday’s premiere, five farmers from across the country went on a series of ‘speed dates’ and selected five finalists to return to their respective farms to continue the courtship.
Last summer, Semmelink told The Record one of the show’s producers came to his farm market and he gave his name as a potential farmer to be featured on the show.
“At first I didn’t want to because I was just so, so busy, but I had a bit of a major life change and life is just really short, so I figured I should just do it.”
The show is based on the international show The Farmer Wants A Wife and there are 10 episodes planned. The show will follow the journey of Semmelink and the five others from across B.C. as they live and work together with those who applied and see if there is a match.
As for the type of partner he’s looking for?
“They don’t have to be a farmer – just someone who is super funny, smart, kind and fun to be around,” he noted.
The series continues on Sunday, June 4, at 7 p.m.
