The Vancouver Island Health Authority’s Mental Health and Addictions program last week issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking a proponent to provide existing or purpose-built residential space to accommodate 10-25 intensive supportive housing units for the Comox Valley.

"Being close to home and family will be a strong benefit to Comox Valley residents who are facing the challenges associated with mental health and substance use," said Comox Valley MLA, Don McRae.

The RFP seeks a five-year lease term with a successful proponent for the land and building. VIHA MHAS will provide 24/7 clinical and rehabilitation support to clients living in the building.

“Providing support in the community to persons with mental health and addictions issues is a key priority for VIHA,” said Don Hubbard, VIHA board chair. “Intensive supportive housing is an important part of the continuum of services to support clients in recovery and provides assistance in relearning the skills for independent living.”

Funding for this project is the result of $286,000 in budget reallocations from within VIHA’s Mental Health and Addictions Program.

The RFP is posted on the BC Bid website, www.bcbid.ca (Ref number P3-RFP-401). Proposals will be accepted until 2 p.m. July 15, 2011.
