Volunteers needed for grave clean-up

On Remembrance Day members of the armed forces (soldiers, sailors and airmen) are commemorated. Some 100,000 Canadian soldiers died in the First and Second World Wars. At least a dozen of them are buried at St. Andrew’s Cemetery (at the back of St. Andrew’s Church) along Dingwall Road in Courtenay.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 to 11 a.m., everyone in the community, especially the families and descendants of veterans is invited to honour our veterans by helping clean up their final resting place in time for Remembrance Day. A short candlelight tribute ceremony will be held at the cemetery before the clean up to remember our fallen soldiers. Please bring your leaf gathering equipment if you have it. Refreshments will be provided for volunteers during the clean up.
