Walking School Bus coming to Cumberland

To celebrate Earth Week, the Cumberland Community Schools Society (CCSS) and Cumberland Elementary School staff are organizing a Walking School Bus. It’s like carpooling without the cars.

To celebrate Earth Week, the Cumberland Community Schools Society (CCSS) and Cumberland Elementary School staff are organizing a Walking School Bus.It’s like carpooling without the cars. From April 18 to 21, students are encouraged to “get on the bus” and walk to school.Organizers have mapped out four different routes within the Village of Cumberland with each route being supervised by adult monitors. Maps and schedules are posted at the school and on the Cumberland Community Schools Society’s Facebook page.Maps show points and times where students can join the “bus” either on their own or with their families.Walking to school provides an opportunity for socializing, exercising and reduces pollution and traffic congestion at the school. Families are working hard to juggle their busy schedules but by working together as a community we hope to make walking to school fun and easier for everyone. To find out more or volunteer for this Earth Week event, contact Sue at sloveless@shaw.ca or 250-336-8782.— Cumberland Community Schools
