Denis Stairs was in his canoe in Comox Bay at about 9:30 Thursday morning, checking his crab traps, when lo and behold, a pod of orcas swam by. "They were about 50 feet away," said Stairs, who snapped a couple of shots with his smartphone as the whales swam by.
