Comox Valley WinterFest has entered the final stretch and will wrap-up with a myriad of free family events at the Fun Zone on Fifth Street and England Avenue, coupled with extensive après ski live performances at venues throughout downtown Courtenay.

In addition to free skating, the Fun Zone features four distinct events for families.

Thursday’s Frozen Dress Up Family Skate will see the rink come alive with everyone’s favourite characters, glittering lights, shimmering balloons and music. Kids who dress-up as their favourite character will be entered to win tube passes to Mount Washington.

Tweens won’t want to miss the Friday Night Skate Party where friends come together for skating while soaking in the tunes spun by DJ Detok’s. The atmosphere will be electric with pulsating lights and glow sticks. The best part is, it’s free, and includes skates.

Saturday is WinterFest Family Carnival Day with games and activities including a balloon artist, cotton candy, face painting and a performance by Captain Thunderpants.

The final day of WinterFest is Farm Fun at the Fun Zone, celebrating farming, farm animals and family. It will feature the Farmer For A Day activity centre, presented by Comox Valley Exhibition, many kid-friendly crafts, topped off by an animal petting area with miniature ponies Charmer & Dakota, and their miniature goat and chicken friends from Hill Top Farm.

Awesome après events round out the final days of WinterFest. For a great Friday happy hour check out Vivian & Steve Ruskin, Gladstone Brewing, Gentiania at Cardero’s, and How Could I at Union Street Grill. Wrap up the evening with Jill Martini Trio, Billy D’s Pub and Bistro, Leela Gilday at the Sid Williams Theatre, and Friday Night Fever with Time Well Wasted at the Avalanche Bar and Grill.

After a day on the slopes Saturday, skiers and boarders can take in Lion Bear Fox at the Sid, Maverick Cinema with Louis Patterson at Cornerstone Café & Taphouse, the Blues Report, Billy D’s, as well as Adam-Michael & Brian Norman at Gladstone Brewing Co, and Erik Erikisson (Ice Blue) at Union Street Grotto.
