A new six-bed hospice is less than two weeks away from opening at its new location at Ocean Front Village on Cliffe Avenue in Courtenay.

Jane Sterk, executive director of the Comox Valley Hospice Society says the first residents will be transported to the new facility from Hospice at The Views in Comox on July 18.

“We’re very excited about the increased capacity to accommodate people from the Valley. This is a purpose-built facility and in some ways, Hospice at The Views was also purpose-built, but it was a renovation of existing space. And so everything here is brand new, and everything has been specifically designed for hospice.”

Each room has new features including capacity for family and friends, reclining chairs, a fridge, a private washroom, lifts and a private patio.

The hospice also has a family room, a nursing station with a view of all the rooms and a quiet area for family and friends.

Ocean Front Village is a seniors’ lifestyle community that provides independent and assisted living options; It is owned by Cranbrook-based Gold Life Management Corp.
