Aug 21, 1954 - May 23, 2018
Huddart, Robert Allan (Bob), 63, of Courtenay, BC, entrepreneur and community builder, passed away peacefully on May 23 at North Island Hospital, with family members at his side.

Bob was born August 21, 1954 in London, Ontario, to Larry and Utti Huddart. He attended school in Peterborough, Ontario; Melbourne, Australia; and Cali, Colombia as well as Lakefield College. After travels in Europe and the Caribbean he returned to Canada and in 1984, graduated from Camosun College with the Provincial Gold Medal in Hotel and Restaurant Management. A year later, he opened the Alma St. Cafe in Vancouver, with his brother Stephen, serving up great food and live jazz to wide acclaim.

After five years in Vancouver, Bob moved to Courtenay BC, where he owned several homes and launched a series of businesses - 'Whitecaps' cappuccinos and lemonade served from a big blue bus at the farmers market; Thai cooking sauces that he created and bottled; stones and healing crystals that he collected, packaged and distributed. Most recently, with his focus on personal and planetary health, Bob designed and produced the eBob - an innovative electric back-of-bike cargo trailer.

Bob was an active member of the Comox Valley community. For many years he organized popular monthly vegan potlucks and dine outs; served on the boards of the Comox Valley Farmers Market and the Lake Trail Middle School; and was a volunteer ski patroller on the cross country trails on Mt. Washington. He became a community videographer, documenting events like the Snow to Surf race and posting them to YouTube.

Bob loved the valley and surroundings and its people. He proudly hosted hundreds of people from around the world on kayak, hiking and cross country skiing trips.

Bob was a gentle, kind and thoughtful person with a delightful sense of humour and wicked ability to take on all comers at games like crokinole and ping pong. His niece Emily and nephews John and Kaj can attest to this and will continue to play with their children and nieces and nephews in memory of Uncle Bob.

Bob was predeceased by his mother and father and his sister Jennifer. He is survived by his sister Sue and her partner Diane, his brother Stephen and wife Catherine and his step-mother Carol and their families, and by many friends around the world.

Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? (Mary Oliver)
