Richardson - Abraham Leroy (Rick) passed away Friday, April 5, 2002 at home. Born November 30, 1921 in Cumberland. Predeceased by his parents George & Ruth Haywood, sisters: Beulah, Olive, Margaret, and older brother Robert. Also daughter Marilyn in 1997. Survived by wife of 55 years, Edna (McKay); daughters: Diane (Roy), Wilma, Brenda (Kirk); 8 grandchildren: Leya & Derek Hatch, Sandra, Erin & Deanna Brooks, Samantha & Christopher Sampson, Andrew Richardson; 2 great grandchildren: Kyle Larmand & Quinn Eremko.
As a youth growing up in Cumberland he excelled in all sports, particularly track & field and baseball. He will be remembered as the one everyone tried to beat. Later he coached his daughters basketball and softball teams, boys baseball and last Union Bay women’s Softball. Rick stayed active, playing basketball shortly before his first heart attack at age 48. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross while serving with the RCAF in WWII. He was proud to march with the Legion on Remembrance Day until failing health in the past few years. No Service by request.
