It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the death of Aidan at the age of 18 years. He died suddenly on March 10, 2019, as a result of a workplace accident.
He is survived by his parents, Nicole Webber (Gibbs) and Jim Webber; brother, Quinn Webber; sister, Cassie Mills; brother, Robin Webber; sister, Sasha Albury; sister, Jazmin Webber; maternal grandparents, Cheryl and Michael Gibbs; and paternal grandparents, Bill and Chris Webber. Aidan is also survived by a loving circle of relatives -- aunts, uncles, cousins and a community of thousands of friends, co-workers, and fellow competitors from his years in BMX cycling competitions.
We have heard from hundreds of people, from all corners of the world and representing different parts of his short, yet dynamic life. We have found comfort in the outpouring of love and support from friends and colleagues from the world of competitive BMX racing, his work on the water, and from communities throughout the province, especially Comox and Nanaimo.
Aidan was an exceptional human being, who lived life to the fullest with a sense of adventure and passion. He died doing a job he loved, working on the water in some of the most beautiful areas of the province. He was also a fierce competitor, a top seeded BMX racer in Canada and the US, with a 14-year career that culminated in his being named the Junior Champion of Canada in 2018. He dominated in his class in competitions throughout the world - his achievements in the sport are too numerous to list. But most significantly, Aidan was beloved by his family, his co-workers, by the young riders he mentored and coached - he was a rare person and a true community builder.
His brother Quinn, said of him, "He was a force of nature, a man who lived his life with positivity, joy and generosity. He didn't do anything half speed. He lived his life full throttle."
He will be missed so greatly, but the family will keep his memory alive. One way they will do this is by setting up a memorial fund through the Vancouver Foundation to create a legacy for young people in Aidan's name. They will ask for donations in lieu of flowers. Cheques can be made to the Vancouver Foundation with a note about the Aidan Webber Memorial Fund. And online giving portal will be established in the coming weeks with details to follow at a public celebration of his life on Sunday, March 31st. All are welcome.
