Alan R. Birchall

September 14, 1918 – September 27, 2009

Predeceased by his beloved wife Carolyn (nee Mallory).  Survived by daughters Barbara (Keith) and Vicki (John), five grandchildren: Michael, Mark, Stephan, Karen and Jennifer, and six great-grandchildren. Alan had a career for 30 years with the Royal Canadian Air Force, followed by some of his favourite years prospecting in the Washington State wilderness camping, canoeing, and hiking, enjoying the freedom to roam. We wish him peace.

His family would like to thank Dr. Potter-Cogan for his never-ending patience and kindness.  We would also like to thank Comox Valley Hospice, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, WeCare, Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Alison Knowles of Vancouver Island Health Authority and the caregivers who became a part of Alan’s life.  Alan often said, “My guys take really good care of me. I feel safe with them.”  A very special acknowledgement to Rose for her amazing warmth, care and friendship over many years.

Donations can be made to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Children’s Wish Foundation. A gathering of remembrance will be held at 1560 Comox Avenue, from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm on Saturday, October 17, 2009.
