Alastair Scott

April 22, 2015

Alastair Robert Scott, 90, of Comox, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015. His was a life lived with purpose, intellectual curiosity, faith, compassion and humour. Al was born in Edinburgh Scotland in 1924. While stationed in the North of Scotland with the Fleet Air Arm, he met the love of his life, Ruth Lawrence. Married 67 years, they raised four children (David, Susan, Alison and Nancy), and welcomed two grandchildren (Andrew and Willow). Al enjoyed a successful career as an Engineer, and retired as Assistant Deputy Director with the Canadian department of Energy, Mines and Resources. After he retired, he earned a PhD in philosophy. Al was an active community volunteer and member of the United Church of Canada, most recently at Comox United Church. He was also funny (although at times his fondness for puns made his family wince) and fun (as a very recent turn on the trampoline proved).

Alastair will be greatly missed by his family, including his brother Rankin in Scotland, son-in-law Robert, and many friends in Comox, Qualicum Beach, Belleville, Ottawa and Peterborough.

His wife Ruth extends special thanks to Dr. Howard and the wonderful team on the Transition Care Unit at St. Joseph’s General Hospital for their exceptional care.
