Albert "Al" Land

In loving memory ~
With heavy hearts, lots of love, and fond memories, the family of Albert "Al" Land, age 84, of Comox announces his passing on May 14, 2023.
A Renaissance man, born in Groningen, Netherlands in 1938, Al was a man of extraordinary ingenuity with amazing self-taught mechanical skills. There wasn't a single project he wasn't interested in tackling.
Some of his accomplishments included: building race cars, building houses, building a fishing boat, and building the Gemstar which was a 42' motor-sailer on which he sailed North and South America for 3 years.
In more recent years, he enjoyed attending the theatre, music, good food, and visiting with family and friends (especially if they were up for a game of crib or watching hockey)....sharing stories of his many entrepreneurial-adventurous years.
As a child, Al moved to Edmonton in the 1940s. He moved to Vancouver Island in the 1960s—living in Victoria, Cedar, Parksville, Port McNeill, and the Comox Valley.
Al is survived by his wife, Regina Land, and his children Ken, Elaine, Gina, Debbie and Sonny along with his step-children Elvira, Ilonka, Barry, and Sonny.
He is also survived by his first wife Joyce Huson, and loving grandchildren-- Robyn, Crystal, Spencer, Aria, Jessica, and great-granddaughter Kendyll. He is pre-deceased by his grandson Caleb.
Al was the oldest of 12 siblings. Surviving siblings include Walter, Anna, Peter, Bill, Jenny, Winston, Elsie, and Ben. Al was pre-deceased by Henry, Sylvia, and Clarence.
Although Al is missed by his family and friends, all are grateful that he is no longer suffering from his long-term heart condition and is now at peace.
A Celebration Of Life will be held at Two Eagles Lodge 6409 Island Highway South, Union Bay on June 8 at 12 p.m. All are welcome.
