Albert (Bert) Linder

December 27, 2008

Albert (Bert) H. Linder

Born: June 1921 Torquay, England

Passed away: December 27, 2008, Comox, BC

Survived by: Lillian, wife of 65 years; sons: Arnie (Valerie), Campbell River; Philip (Marie), Delta, BC; 5 grandsons and 1 granddaughter; 5 great grandchildren.

“Bert” as he was known to his many friends served in the RAF as a boy entrant at the age of 16 and served in England during World War II. Immigrated to Canada in 1948 and settled in Calgary, Alberta. In 1968 moved to Merritt, BC and then to Comox in 1974.

Bert was a loving husband, great father, grandfather and friend and was very active in the communities in which he lived holding down numerous positions in the many service organizations he joined. He worked in the field of Municipal Parks and Recreation for over 25 years prior to his retirement and received a lifetime membership in the BCRPA. As an athlete he played semi-pro soccer in England. Among his many other interests he played rugger, golf, curling, and enjoyed camping and sailing. In the 60s awarded "Yachtman of the Year” by the Canadian Yachting Association. His favourite hobbies included painting (oil and watercolour), story telling (always a good joke to make one smile) and “happy” music. A caustic wit and a great sense of humour will be missed by all his friends. One of his favourite things to do was working with youth in the various communities where he lived.

During the last years of his life he enjoyed living at and taking part in the activities at Berwick in Comox.

His family would like to thank the thoughtful staff at Berwick for all their kindness.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice in his memory.

A service will be held on Friday, January 2nd at 1:00pm at the RCAF 888 Wing 1298 Military Road Comox BC.
