DIXON — ALBERT GARFORTH aged 89 of Courtenay, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 27, 2004 following a brief illness. Born November 27, 1914, he was predeceased by his twin brother Harold.  Al was well known in the Comox Valley for founding the Comox District Band and always played the Last Post at every Legion funeral from Campbell River to Nanaimo, faithfully turning out, rain or shine.  He loved his music and was an accomplished trumpet player. He was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks, being honoured with his 60-year pin.  Professionally, he was a well-known realtor with Block Brothers Realty for many years.    His loving wife Dorothy survives him. He is survived as well by his sister Hilda Barass, nephew Ken Barrass, and nieces Beverly Babcock, Jeanean Veitch and Lorrainne Dixon.  A Service of Remembrance in Celebration of his life will be held at COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 1101 Ryan Road on Friday, at 2.00 p.m. April 30, 2004.  If people wish, donations may be made in Al’s memory to the Comox Valley & District SPCA Branch, Box 1284, Comox, BC,  V9N 7Z8.
